Tune in to PRP.FM

Bedrock Theatre was recently featured on our local nonprofit radio station Portland Radio Project's “Community Voices” program. Lead Producer Emily Eisele sat down with host Veronica Bisesti to talk about Bedrock's origins, the making of CoastWatch & Listen, and why the heck an outdoor theatre company is producing a podcast anyways.

And, episodes of CoastWatch & Listen are coming to a radio near you! Starting Saturday October 4th at 8am, tune into 99.1FM or PRP.FM every other Saturday to (re)listen to these episodes.

behind the science and the storytellers

CoastWatch & Listen is produced by Bedrock Theatre in partnership with Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition.

Oregon Shores

For more than 50 years, Oregon Shores has served as the state’s leading voice when it comes to protecting the beaches, landscapes, and ecosystems that make Oregon’s coast so spectacular and loved. Their mission is to educate and empower people to protect our coastal ecosystems and communities. Since 1993, volunteers have adopted mile-long segments of the Oregon coast through the CoastWatch program to document seasonal natural and human-caused changes, wildlife, and phenomena.

Bedrock Theatre

Bedrock is a small, nonprofit creative ensemble rooted in Portland, Oregon. We create immersive, site-specific works for natural landscapes that connect audiences to their environment and to each other.

Outdoor exploration is an anchor in our creative process. With CoastWatch & Listen, we took the next step in deepening the impact of our creative practice: connecting with organizations fighting on the frontlines for environmental protections and learning how to incorporate stewardship into our work.

Creative Leads

Emily Eisele

LEAD PRODUCER | Emily Eisele grew up in Fort Collins, Colorado, where her appreciation for the outdoors began, but where the ocean always felt very far away. Although she’s been in Oregon for well over a decade now, for Emily the Oregon Coast has never lost its air of magic, mystery, power, and possibility. Producing a coast project is the realization of a longheld dream.

Emily is a Founding Company Member and the current Managing Director for Bedrock Theatre. She has written, composed, and performed for Bedrock’s ensemble productions of Sun Songs & Moon Tunes, Hibernate, Persephone, and The Nightingale. She has also performed locally with Artists Repertory Theatre, CoHo Productions, Third Rail Repertory Theatre, and others. In addition to her creative pursuits, Emily has worked in nonprofit finance and administration for the past decade.

Sascha Blocker

CO-PRODUCER | Sascha Lynn Blocker is a performer, deviser, director, storyteller, producer, and teacher. Local credits include: PETE, Hand2Mouth, CoHo, Imago, Third Rail, Post 5, Liminal Performance Group, and Cerimon House. Sascha was an associate artist for the Drammy award winning theater company Push Leg and is currently co-artistic director of the CoHo Clown Cohort. Sascha teaches movement and clowning at The Actors Conservatory and works as an adjunct faculty member in Communication Studies at Clark College. Recently, Sascha is merging her passion for public speaking and clowning by producing and directing Funny Bones, a live storytelling event that highlights true stories of clowning in everyday life.

Coastwatch & Listen: seed packets

Part of Bedrock's creative process for this project was creating "Seed Packets" inspired by our outdoor explorations. Seed packets included photos, videos, audio clips, and a 5-senses inventory — distilled capsules designed to re-immerse ourselves in the details we wanted to remember about each mile and give root to our creative compositions.

Here are some of the seeds we planted for CoastWatch & Listen.
