WHAT IS OREGON SHORES CONSERVATION COALITION?

For more than 50 years, Oregon Shores has served as the state's leading voice when it comes to protecting the beaches, headlands, landscapes, and ecosystems that make Oregon's Coast so loved.

What is the CoastWatch Program?

Founded in 1993, CoastWatch is Oregon Shores' network of dedicated community science volunteers who monitor Oregon’s shoreline. Each CoastWatch volunteer adopts a mile-long segment of Oregon’s coast; volunteers visit their coastal mile four times a year, or once each season, reporting on natural events and human-induced changes. This year, over 30 years of CoastWatch data is being compiled into an interactive map analyzing trends and changes over time. You can learn more about the CoastWatch program here.

How is Bedrock Collaborating?

Over the next few months, Bedrock Company member Emily Eisele, guest artist Sascha Blocker, and other members of the Bedrock team will travel to the Coast to record interviews with CoastWatch volunteers on their adopted miles of coastline. We'll be uncovering the human stories that coexist alongside this powerful data--what inspired CoastWatchers to volunteer, what they love about their mile, what they have learned from observing the landscape over time, what their worries & hopes are for the future of the coast. These stories will be embedded into Oregon Shores' interactive map as fully-produced audio segments, complete with original music and artistic responses by Bedrock.

How can I get involved?

  • Share your resources. Do you or does someone you know have an Oregon Coast property? Would you be willing to host Bedrock artists for a free or discounted rate? Please reach out to us at info@bedrocktheatre.com. We are especially looking for Lincoln City, Newport, and South Coast options, but all leads are welcome!

  • Donate to support the project. At this time, we are most in need of financial support for artist pay and audio production costs. Click here to donate or reach out to us at development@bedrocktheatre.com to learn more about sponsorship opportunities.

  • Follow along. Keep an eye on our Instagram (@bedrocktheatre) where we'll be sharing regular updates from our travels. We are so grateful for your support!
